2006 STATUS OF YOUR RIGHT TO 7i SHARING

In December, 2005, legislation to open ANWR failed in Congress, but only by a few votes , and only because of the failure to cut off a threatened fillibuster. Alaska's Senator Ted Stevens vowed to bring the issue back in 2006 and in fact he has. In my opinion, there is a distinct possibility that the Democrats will, in the 2006 elections, gain control of the House and/or Senate, this may be the last chance for many years for ANWR to be opened; hence the last chance, for many years, to incorporate the right to share in any legislation opening ANWR. Last year a few of the Regional Corporations supported the inclusion of ANSCA's 7i sharing provisions, but this met strong opposition by the Artic Slope Regional Corporation . Artic Slope continues to claim to be entitled to keep all oil revenues for themselves.
